2. Because basically everyone leaves Gainesville for summer A. students who choose to stay for the summer are left with 3 boring months of what seems to be a ghost town. Many of the stores and restaurants change their hours because their is less traffic. this occurs because most students want an immediate break after the semester. so they'd rather take summer B classes instead of just having one week then back to classes. the new freshman also come flood the gates during summer B to start off their college careers. The night life is very mellow and there's nothing really happening on campus to motivate the summer A students to get active!. currently i would say many people try to get out of Gainesville when they can in order to make use of their summer. At this point i am 90% sure that that the problem exists.
3. The typical customer would be a UF student in gainesville right now for summer A classes.

5. I learned that this is a very real opportunity. i also learned that dave had a lot of similarity in the way i felt about summer A. what was surprising was that Dave still felt such a disconnected and rated his summer a 4 even with friends in town. i thought this showed what a great impact the campus life and vibes can have on students.
6. after speaking with Dave i wouldn't change my opportunity at all. he completely confirmed how i felt about the need and expressed that basically he didn't see an immediate solution to his current problem. however if Dave had disagreed and stated that his summer was a complete blast. i would have modified my need and tried to talk to a lot more students to find out if they felt the same way. i think the customers opinion is the most important because they're who your trying help so you want to know exactly how they feel and what they're exact needs are.
I love the problem that you presented because I hear it constantly. Most people do think of summer A as a ghost town and even some say its depressing. I can relate because majority of my close friends did go home or elsewhere for this time. However I am a major advocate for Summer A because I believe it allows for freedom and opportunity to do what you want to do. Campus definitely doesn't have the same happy vibe though.
ReplyDeleteWow that's interesting I had no idea that the campus was like that during the summer because I've never experienced UF during the summer because I came in as a transfer student this is actual my first time doing a summer class at UF and as who know it's online so I'm back home. But it was interesting listen to the interview and I fill there is some type of opportunity there.

GREAT POST!!
ReplyDeleteSince I am not on campus, I think it is interesting to hear about what goes on from other students who do go to campus. Your opportunity could have been a little more detailed. You didn't really point out any suggestions to what would make it more interactive.
